This assignment was hard for me.
I have thought about it all weekend and still the perfect story eludes me. I used to love creative writing, but I have gotten so in my head about writing these past few years that I don’t feel capable. I can’t weave a story or smith a poem and I definitely wouldn’t know how to connect it to what we have been learning about in class. I have thought a lot about what I would write about and the only thing which comes to mind is opinion writing. Ideas which lend themselves to strong claims and even stronger examples and evidence, but that isn’t what you want to read in this assignment. I could go on a tirade about the way women are perceived or even dive deep into the racial structures created by concepts brought up by our good friend Said, but again that isn’t what you are looking for. You want a bit of surprise and a bit of intrigue. I do not know how to offer that. So instead I offer you some pieces of my favorite type of poetry:
Limericks.
They are nothing amazing and they are nothing special, but they make me smile and I hope they are able to make you smile as well. I hope that you see them as a creative way for me to share the pieces of myself which I yearn to share as in a formal essay style.
Women
A woman is willing to trick you
To hide under your bed and say boo
But open your eyes
And then realize
Who is the true trickster? Who?
The White Man’s Burden
Hey you, over there, you need saving?
This has nothing to do with enslaving.
I’m here to protect
And here to correct
What a beautiful path I am paving.
