Christian Accounts of Muhhamad
Despite differing views on both Jesus and Muhhamad from Chistians and Muslims, Muslims have always been respectful of Jesus as a prophet. This is far from the case for Muhammad. His story has been greatly misconstrued over and over again by Christian recounting. Ernst references some specific examples of this, including Muhammad’s role in Dante’s Inferno and a quote by Martin Luther in which Muhammad is referred to as “The Devil’s Son”. These were just a few examples of the many given. This claim is important, because it references the extreme disrespect that Christians have towards Muslims. “The West”, as a predominantly Christian area, instills these negative ideas about Islam into their lack of understanding and compassion for those living in the East. Years of false depictions of one of Islam’s greatest prophets has helped to form the inaccurate view of “The East”, which is elaborated on throughout the rest of the text.
